Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can affect a child’s learning, development or ability to take part fully in school life. A child may need additional support with:

• communication, friendships or social interaction;
• reading, writing or mathematics;
• understanding and processing information;
• attention, concentration or organisation;
• emotional regulation or wellbeing;
• sensory needs; or
• physical development, mobility or access.

Every child is different, and children may show their strengths and needs in different ways at home and at school. At Newton Primary School, we will always listen carefully to parents and carers and work in partnership with families to understand and support each child.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning, development or provision, please speak to your child’s class teacher as early as possible. The class teacher will discuss your concerns with you and, where appropriate, involve our SENDCo, Mrs Ashleigh Booth.

Children learn in different ways and make progress at different rates. Teachers take account of this when planning lessons and adapting teaching. Where a child is making slower progress or experiencing difficulties compared with others of a similar age, the school may provide additional or different support to help them learn, participate and succeed.
