Physical Education

1. Intent (Why we teach it)

  • Purpose: To provide a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum that builds essential physical skills, knowledge, and understanding.
  • Goal: To foster a lifelong love of sport, physical activity, and exercise while promoting healthy lifestyles.
  • Values: Developing personal attributes such as fairness, bravery, respect, teamwork, and leadership.

2. Implementation (How we teach it)

  • Structure: High-quality, progressive lessons where skills build on previous learning.
  • Methodology: A mix of individual, pair, and group work, with expert coaching for varied sports (e.g., gymnastics, dance, invasion games).
  • Assessment: Ongoing formative assessment to adapt teaching, alongside end-of-unit, or end-of-year assessments.
  • Environment: Utilizing safe and appropriate facilities, equipment, and technology.

3. Impact (What is achieved)

  • Student Outcomes: Children become physically confident, competent, and motivated.
  • Progress: Demonstrated improvement in skills, knowledge, and understanding over time.
  • Well-being: Enhanced physical health, mental wellbeing, and improved cognitive function (focus, memory).
  • Assessment of Impact: Measured through pupil interviews, performance, and increased participation in extra-curricular activities.

This framework ensures that PE is not just activity, but a planned, developmental experience for every child.
